This car, chassis number 137C*0044* with its original matching engine, therefore also numbered 137*0044* was an Abarth Corse Deutschland factory team car which was primarily driven by Siegfried Dau through the ’66 season, including at the DARM GT Hockenheim, Nürburgring 1000km, DARM Mainz-Finthen and GP Hockenheim race events, as well as sometimes driven by Klaus Steinmetz. Dau finished 2nd at the Hockenheim 500 in the car, later selling it directly to the Rosso Bianco owner Mr Peter Kaus in the early 1908s. Subsequently restored by the Museum and with accompanying extensive restoration photographs, they then only drove it once in twenty odd years before it was sold to a Japanese collector. Since then the current owner acquired the car and he has mechanically gone right through the car which included rebuilding the engine at a cost of $50,000. The work included coating the pistons, regrinding and machining the head and valves, fitting hardened cams, rebuilding the bottom end with rare bearings, redoing the brakes, redoing the transmission and differential and installing a custom made stainless steel radiator (duel radiator for water and oil) keeping the original to the side. Described as perfect and driving like a rocket, it is track tested and ready. Everything works as it should.
