This lovely car, which is listed by the Lagonda Club as one of the marque's "notable cars", was built specially by Lagonda for rally driver W. M. (Mike) Couper. The car features in Arnold Davey and Anthony May's book "A History of the Marque" which records that Couper took part in the 1932 Alpine Rally and won the Glacier Cup in that event. Couper appears to have been a keen rally man and the car was used in other events including the London-Gloucester trial where he won a Bronze Medal. The car also came second in the Eastbourne Concours in 1932. After Couper the car was owned by several people during which time it became fairly dilapidated. Fortunately it was acquired in 1988 by an enthusiast who clearly had the interest, committment and the financial ability to undertake a full restoration which cost him ᆪ30,000 which was a lot of money in the 1980s. The car comes with several "before" pictures which show that, although it was largely complete when he bought, there was a great deal of work to be done to get it into its present excellent state - he is to be congratulated on the result! Apart from looking superb the car drives as well as it looks so it is not just a show model, you can get some serious driving pleasure out of it as well. This is a car for the enthusiast who wants the very best of traditional 1930's sporting motoring.
