We have lusted after Tigers for many years and the prices have steadily risen with perfect examples now reaching more than ?50,000, this is a rare opportunity to buy a Right Hand Drive for a reasonable price. Our car is finished in Blue with the Black Interior, it is a genuine Right Hand Drive car and is in a very nice restored condition. It was restored many years ago and still is ina very good condition with only minor cosmetic problems to address. The Sunbeam Tiger was originally conceived in early 1963 due to a demand on the West Coast of America for a more powerful sports car than the little 1500 c.c. Alpine that Rootes were already offering. What he did was to literally shoehorn the 4.2 litre Ford V8 engine into the Alpine and market the car as the Sunbeam Tiger. The Mark I cars were all fitted with the 4.2 litre (260 cubic inches) V8 and the later Mark II's were fitted with the 4.7 litre (289 c.i.) engine. The Tiger achieved everything it set out to do, which was to give a form of fast open top motoring at an affordable price. Not only was the Tiger an excellent road car but it also had notable successes as a national and international rally car. The car was introduced to the tough world of international rallying by Tiny Lewis and Ian Hall on the San Martino rally in 1961 and went on to do very well in such events as the Tulip and Acropolis. Perhaps its best result was in the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally when it finished 4th overall driven by Harper and Hall, whilst Carrol Shelby even entered a team of Tigers at Le Mans. The Tiger's performance left nothing to be desired with a top speed in excess of 120mph and the 0-60mph sprint being accomplished in under nine seconds. Interior: Our car has the Black Leatherette interior and it is in a very nice condition. The cabin is a wonderful place to sit and really evocative of the sixties. All the dials and instruments work as they should and there is nothing that needs immediately addressing. The carpet is also very good and all in all, the cabin is very nice. The soft top was new a fews years ago and is still in very good condition. Exterior: Our car has been finished in Dark Blue and the finish is extremely good with only a couple of minor flaws visible on the car such as a patch of crazing on the bootlid. If you were attend to this the car would be very sharp indeed. There is no sign of any corrosion anywhere and it presents extremely well. All chrome work is in good condition. The wheels are good as are the tyres and you can simply polish and drive away! The car is sitting on its original Wolfrace alloys but a new set of Minilites plus tyres are also included in the sale. Mechanical: This car starts and drives exactly how it should and is a pleasure to drive. The previous owner wanted the car to be completely sorted and spare no expense to get it this way. The car is now fitted with a 302 cui motor with a 5 speed gearbox. There are recent bills for work to the engine totaling ?2,500, this includes electric ignition, new carb and an alloy rad. In addition the front suspension has been rebuilt at a cost of ?2,700 and new wheel bearings on the rear alxe. There are no undue knocks or rattles, the car has a new MOT and is ready to show this summer and enjoy. Summary This is a special car in a number of ways, the colour scheme is perfect, the mechanical and general restoration work carried out means it is an absolute pleasure to drive and own. Having been imported from South Africa only a year and a half ago it is rust free. Tigers are rare in the current market and always sell very quickly due to being extremely undervalued. This is a very straight car that drives really well. Petrol
