Although Owning Classic Cars can be an exhilarating experience, one of the most frustrating aspects of the hobby can be locating spare classic car parts. Some vintage cars are extremely rare, and it can cost a lot of time and money to find the appropriate classic car parts.

However, there are steps you can take to cut down the costs of classic car parts. Learn how in the guide below.

Find Parts for Classic Cars: Three Top Tips

1. Join a Classic Car Club

Many vintage car enthusiasts club together to share their interest – so whether you’re the proud owner of a Triumph or a TVR, search around for classic car clubs in your local area to meet fellow classic car owners.

By taking this step, not only can you further your knowledge of the car, you may even gain some invaluable information as to where you can find selected classic car parts. In some cases, a club member may even be willing to sell you some unwanted spare parts – so whilst joining a club may seen an elaborate way of finding parts, it can be an excellent starting point at the very least.

2. Attend local car shows and fairs

Hundreds of classic car shows are held around the country every year, so be sure to put plenty of space in your diary to attend any events being held in your local area – shows and fairs will attract both enthusiasts and manufacturers, so even if you fail to uncover spare parts at an event, the contacts you make may prove to be extremely useful in sourcing spares.

It’s best to avoid the major events, as these tend to be aimed at the masses – instead, seek out small, niche events directly related to specialist vintage cars. You won’t have to compete with the crowds, and the experts will still be in attendance.

3. Contact the manufacturer direct

In the search for classic car parts, this strategy is something of an outside bet, but it’s certainly worth a try if you are really struggling to find relevant parts for vintage cars. Naturally, in some cases, a vintage car manufacturer may no longer be in existence, but carry out a little research into whether the company was part of a merger or takeover, and if possible try and contact the modern-day manufacturer.

With this approach, you may not be able to find the classic car parts you require, but the manufacturer may have some useful information that should help you to direct your search. And, who knows, if you’re really lucky, they may still own some original parts and be willing to sell (for a small fee)…
