General Guides: Second Hand Cars
From Classic Car Life
Buying second hand cars can be a bit stressful as what you see is what you get. If you are nervous about buying used cars for sale then this article should give you a good idea on what to check for.
How to Check Used Cars for Sale
- Look at the classic cars flanks for dents, check the bumpers for scrapes, and make sure the paint is a consistent shade across the whole car.
- Honest grime can be a good thing, look for oil or fluid leaks from the car.
- Look out for rust, obvious rust will be clear but you should run your fingers under the wheel arches, doors and bumpers; an orange finger will give the game away.
- Look at the upholstery, check it doesn’t smell of cigarette smoke. Does the general wear and tear of the car match the mileage? Worn seats, shiny steering wheels and pedals on a low mileage car are giveaways.
- Press all of the buttons and check everything works.
- When you test drive second hand cars you should listen for any rattles or noises which sound unusual.
