Classic Mercedes-Benz 300SL
This classic Mercedes is one of the most famous of all classic cars because of the distinct gullwing doors. The doors on this classic Mercedes may not have been the most practical and they were prone to leaking but they were undoubtedly unique. This vintage car features a 3L straight six engine that was one of the first to feature direct fuel injection and produced roughly 240bhp, making this classic Mercedes the fastest production car in the world when it was released in 1954.
Even though this classic Mercedes was fast and had fairly modern suspension for its time, it was a handful to drive at speed because of the swing rear axle which means that understeer quickly turns into snap oversteer. Despite this, this is one of the most desirable classic cars in the world and this vintage car can easily fetch over £300,000.
Classic Mercedes-Benz 600
This classic Mercedes which was also known as the Grosser (large) was released in 1963 and was supposed to represent the pinnacle of motoring. At the time, only Rolls-Royce produced cars that were similar in size and grandeur. This vintage car is designed to be the ultimate in luxury and proved popular for government dignitaries and celebrities. There are a few different types of these classic cars but the most desirable are the earliest models. One of the most notable things of this classic Mercedes is that it has the loudest horn ever fitted to a production car.
The ride and levels of luxury in this classic car still rivals modern cars and several celebrities still own these classic Mercedes including Jay Kay, Jeremy Clarkson and Rowan Atkinson. Classic Mercedes-Benz 190E
Although this classic Mercedes is not as old as some of the other classic Mercedes available in the list and may not be a classic car as some see it but it can be counted amongst other classic cars. This classic Mercedes was developed originally for rallying and was then used in the DTM (German touring cars) race series. These classic cars came with 2.3L and later 2.5L engines that developed roughly 200bhp and moved this classic Mercedes to speed of 155mph. Racing versions of these classic cars had 320bhp. Although these classic Mercedes are not yet that rare, they are becoming more and more sought after.
